Forlan completes United switch

Manchester United FC have confirmed the signing of striker Diego Forlan for a fee of €12m.

Manchester United FC have confirmed the signing of Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan for a fee of €12m.

Long stay
The former Club Atlético Independiente player's move was confirmed by the English FA Premiership club on Tuesday. Forlan, 22, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford.

'Good header'
"He's very quick, he's got two good feet and he's a good header of the ball," United manager Alex Ferguson told the club's official website. "He's always looking to score, always getting in the box and behind people. He's only young, and obviously we hope to develop him over the next year and he'll turn out to be a very good player."

'One for the future'
Forlan will be eligible for the rest of United's UEFA Champions League campaign, which begins again with a match against FC Nantes Atlantique on 20 February. "He's one for the future but I know I can use him this year and he's available for Europe which is important," added Ferguson. "If he turns out to be half as good as Ruud [van Nistelrooij] we'll be happy!"
