Salas blow for Juventus

Juventus FC striker Marcelo Salas may be missing for up to six months after tests confirmed he had suffered knee ligament damage.

Juventus FC striker Marcelo Salas may be missing for up to six months after tests confirmed he had suffered knee ligament damage.

Surgery possible
The Italian club said on Monday it would announce in the next few days whether surgery would be required. If that is the case, then Salas would be missing for most of the season.

Carried off
The Chilean international, who joined the club from S.S. Lazio in the summer, was carried off shortly after coming on as a substitute in Saturday’s match against Bologna FC. It is the latest injury headache for coach Marcello Lippi, who also saw key player Alessandro del Piero suffer a broken finger in the same match.

Lippi concerned
French international David Trezeguet, who has suffered injury problems of his own this season, may have to lead the line on his own in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against FC Porto. “What concerns me most are the injuries,'' Lippi told the club’s official website. “For everything else I can say that the lads have given their all and played to a high level.''

Four without win
After winning their first three matches of the season, Juventus have not claimed a win in their last four domestic fixtures. However a win over Porto would be enough to book their place in the second group stage of the Champions League.
