🍴 What to eat in London
No matter which part of the city you’re in, London has restaurants to suit every taste and budget. From traditional British dishes to food from every corner of the globe, London has something for everyone.
If you want to eat like a local, look out for some of these traditionally British dishes:
Popular for centuries, a fry-up is the perfect meal to start a day, especially for the Champions League final! Go all out with sausage, bacon, fried eggs, baked beans, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms, buttered toast and black pudding. You can usually even opt for a vegetarian version, with replacements including veggie sausages and halloumi.
Bangers = sausages. A hearty matchday meal, sausages are served with buttery mashed potatoes and peas, then covered with gravy. A regular on pub menus, you can’t go wrong with this classic.
Hot pies are eaten at football grounds across the country while the history of pie and mash is embedded in the east end of London. Meat pies and mashed potatoes can still be found in shops across the capital, where they have been serving this dish since the early 20th century.
Head to a chippy for another British classic. Cod or haddock is battered, then fried, and served with a generous portion of chips. You’ll be asked whether you want salt and vinegar with your meal, and be warned – you’ll also get a generous serving of this, too! Consider getting a side of mushy peas, tartar sauce or even curry sauce!
A true Sunday tradition (perfect for the day after the final)! Enjoy a full roast dinner with all the trimmings. Order your meat or vegetarian main accompanied by roast potatoes, vegetables, and a Yorkshire pudding - all of which is dowsed in gravy.
