Floro farewell from Mallorca

RCD Mallorca have sacked coach Benito Floro after a disappointing run of form in the Primera División.

Five defeats
The final straw was Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Real Sociedad de Fútbol, with the club's board taking the decision to part with Floro after just three and a half months in charge. Mallorca, who finished eleventh in Spain last season, have won just one and lost five of their opening eight matches.

'Change needed'
"The board has agreed unanimously to dismiss the coach," chairman Mateo Alemany said. "We have taken this step because we felt the team needed a change - to regain harmony and create a positive atmosphere."

Plenty of experience
Mallorca have not named a replacement although Tomeu Llompart will take over on a temporary basis. The 52-year-old Floro, who previously worked at Real Madrid CF and Villarreal CF, was appointed in July after the departure of Luis Aragonés to the national team. He made his name by leading Albacete Balompié from the third division to the top flight in three seasons during the early 1990s.
