Netherlands midfielder Kevin Strootman described AS Roma as a "top club" after signing from PSV Eindhoven for a fee that could rise to €20m.
Capped 18 times with the Netherlands, the 23-year-old playmaker blossomed at PSV, scoring seven goals in 62 league games since joining in summer 2011. Now he has his sights set on immediate success with the Giallorossi after inking a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
"I'm really happy I'm finally here," said the midfielder, who recently featured for the Netherlands at the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. "The negotiations went on too long, but I'm finally a Roma player. This a top club, I joined because I know we can start winning immediately."
Roma, who failed to qualify for UEFA club competition last term after a sixth-placed finish in Serie A, also confirmed the capture of Medhi Benatia from Udinese Calcio for €13.5 million. The centre-back, 26, moves to the capital after three impressive seasons with the Zebrette, and has penned a five-year-deal.
His signing bolsters a Giallorossi back line that has been depleted by José Ángel's loan to Real Sociedad de Fútbol.
