VfL Wolfsburg have signed Eredivisie top scorer Bas Dost from sc Heerenveen on a five-year contract.

Dost, who turned 23 on Thursday, has completed a medical in Wolfsburg and joins a team who finished eighth in the Bundesliga, just outside the European places. He scored 32 goals for Heerenveen in 2011/12, aiding them to fifth position and a UEFA Europa League third qualifying round berth.

The former Netherlands Under-21 striker, who joined Heerenveen from Heracles Almelo in 2010, said: "It's a big chance for me to prove myself with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. I was interested in this league as a boy.

"I had a good feeling right from the start when the negotiations with Felix Magath began. Our first contact was during the winter break, but I wanted to finish the season with Heerenveen. I wish the new season could start right away."

Coach Magath added: "Bas has undergone great development in recent years. He is an extremely dangerous and strong central striker with a very impressive record. I'm fully convinced that he is capable of playing a big role for us."
