Sevilla start Jiménez era in style

New Sevilla FC coach Manolo Jiménez was "crowned with success" as his team responded perfectly to his appointment by overcoming Valencia CF 3-0 last night.

"The king is dead, long live the king," said Sevilla FC president José María Del Nido as he appointed reserve coach Manolo Jiménez to lead the first team following the departure of Juande Ramos to Tottenham Hotspur FC after two trophy-laden years. And the new reign could be another of plenty following Sunday's 3-0 defeat of Valencia CF – which did for their coach, Quique Sánchez Flores.

Press praise
Frédéric Kanouté, Christian Poulsen and Luis Fabiano all played their part in the Ramos era, and they were the goalscorers as Sevilla moved into the top half of the Primera División a day after Jiménez's hasty appointment. And the media gave a positive write-up to the club legend after his first game in charge. Diario Marca's headline said "Jiménez was crowned with success" while Diario AS opined "Jiménez has brought the colour back to Sevilla".

'Great match'
"We had a great match against a great team thanks to the players' attitude," said Jiménez. "We had our first training session on Saturday, a short one [on Sunday] and only a couple of chats." The new coach will be looking for three more points at Club Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday.
