RC Deportivo La Coruña and Spain forward Ángel Javier Arizmendi is heading back to his first team, Club Atlético de Madrid, after an impressive season at the Riazor.

RC Deportivo La Coruña and Spain forward Ángel Javier Arizmendi is heading back to his original team, Club Atlético de Madrid, after an impressive second season at the Riazor.

High hopes
When leaving his hometown club for the north-west outfit in December 2005, the 23-year-old had a clause inserted in his contract allowing Atlético to take him back - which they have now done. Arizmendi said: "My experience at Atlético wasn't very good but I would like to think things have changed. I will miss Deportivo and it's a great club for young players. I want to thank them for everything this season and for having given me a chance."

UEFA Cup race
Arizmendi, a former Under-21 star who made his Spain debut in February's 1-0 friendly win in England, made 49 league appearances for Deportivo, scoring seven goals. With two games to go in the race for UEFA Cup qualification in Spain, Atlético are in sixth place, one point below Real Zaragoza in fifth. Deportivo are safe from relegation in 13th position but can finish no higher than mid-table.
