Cercle Brugge KSV's Ukrainian international Serhiy Serebrennikov will be out of action for three months after breaking his leg in training today. The 30-year-old midfielder only joined Cercle from city rivals Club Brugge KV last week, and has still to make his debut for the Belgian side. Last season Serebrennikov had a spell on loan at R. Charleroi SC.

BV Borussia Dortmund may have to sign another goalkeeper after No2 Bernd Meier tore ligaments in his right knee during a reserve-team game last night. The 34-year-old, who injured the same knee 16 months ago, faces around six months on the sidelines.

The Newcastle United FC forward Michael Owen confirmed today that he is to travel to the United States this week for surgery on the right knee he injured during England's FIFA World Cup match against Sweden. The 26-year-old said: "It's an operation that needs to be done. I'm looking forward to it because it is a chink of light for me. Once it is out of the way, I can get on with the rehabilitation."

Real Zaragoza captain Luis Carlos Cuartero has been hospitalised due to acute pain in one of his kidneys. The 31-year-old, who began to feel unwell after playing in a friendly against AS Livorno Calcio on Sunday night, has been diagnosed as suffering from renal colic.

Former Polish international Radoslaw Kaluzny has moved to Cyprus to join AEL Limassol FC on a two-year contract. The 32-year-old defensive midfielder, who has played for Wisla Kraków and Bayer 04 Leverkusen among others, arrives at AEL after a season with German second division side LR Ahlen.

Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have agreed a new two-year contract with midfielder Ian Black, while also signing former Rangers FC and Scotland striker Gary McSwegan on a free transfer. Black, 21, has made 39 league appearances in two seasons with the club. The experienced McSwegan, 35, arrives after being released by Ross County FC.

Dutch club Heracles Almelo have parted company with Japanese striker Sota Hirayama, who had scored eight goals in 32 Eredivisie games over the last two seasons. The 21-year-old "wants to return to Japan to continue his studies. No further details will be made available," Heracles said.
