Angers upset Marseille in cup

Ten-times winners Olympique de Marseille were the victims of the shock of the round in the Coupe de France, losing 3-2 at home to Ligue 2 side SCO d'Angers.

Three quick goals
After taking an early lead through Steve Marlet, Marseille were undone when Angers, who are 17th in the second division, struck three times during a seven-minute spell shortly after the restart. Christophe Dussart equalised on 57 minutes and two minutes later Marseille old boy Jocelyn Gourvennec put Angers ahead with a free-kick from 20 metres. Cyril Thereau's 63rd-minute effort put the match beyond Marseille despite a late Frédéric Déhu goal.

'Magic'
Angers midfielder Gourvennec described winning at his old club as "magic" but for Pape Diouf, Marseille's senior director, it was "just sad reality". With AS Saint-Etienne still to play on Sunday against Nîmes Olympique, so far only Marseille and RC Strasbourg on Friday night have lost against lower division opponents.

Monaco rout
AS Monaco FC were 7-0 winners in Grenoble against the amateurs of AC Seyssinet, Souleymane Camara and Mohamed Kallon both scoring twice. There was also a handsome victory for holders Paris Saint-Germain FC who beat US Langueux, the smallest side left in the competition, 6-1. Pauleta and Reinaldo both scored twice and Danijel Ljuboja made a goalscoring return after a long absence through injury.

Champions win
Juninho Pernambucano and Nilmar scored as champions Olympique Lyonnais beat ES Viry-Châtillon 2-0, while Arnaud Gonzalez's goal was the only difference between victorious AJ Auxerre and lowly Calais RUFC.

Draw on Monday
In the two all-Ligue 1 ties, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard beat SC Bastia 1-0, while FC Girondins de Bordeaux defeated FC Istres 2-0. The other sides from the top flight to advance on Saturday were SM Caen, OGC Nice, RC Lens, FC Metz and FC Nantes Atlantique. The draw for the last 32 takes place at the Stade de France at 12.00CET on Monday.
