Ari Lahti has a background in finance, with 30 years of experience as an investment banker and business leader.
Chair of the Finnish football league from 1997 to 2001, he took charge of top-division club KuPS Kuopio in 2006. He returned to the league as vice-chair from 2007 to 2018, when he was elected president of the Football Association of Finland (SPL-FBF).
Lahti spearheaded efforts to lead the men's national team to a first major tournament, culminating in qualification for UEFA EURO 2020. Meanwhile, the women's team have qualified for two consecutive UEFA Women's EUROs, and Helsinki also hosted its first UEFA club competition final, the 2022 UEFA Super Cup.
