UEFA disciplinary workshop in Budapest strengthens cooperation

The 11th UEFA Disciplinary Workshop took place in Budapest, Hungary, on 11 October with the valuable support of the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ).

UEFA’s disciplinary bodies – the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) and Appeals Body (AB), as well as the Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors (EDIs), gathered in the Hungarian capital to discuss and address topics of interest in addition to jurisprudence of the UEFA disciplinary bodies over the last year.

The workshop provided a useful platform and opportunity for all CEDB and AB members, as well as EDIs, to be briefed on specificities linked to the new provisions contained in the 2024 UEFA Disciplinary Regulations and which entered into force last summer.

Discussions included a review of recent developments concerning disciplinary practice and matters. Amongst the other topics, participants, received presentations on international sports arbitration and the right to be heard in disciplinary proceedings.

Representatives from FIFA, CONMEBOL and the AFC presented an overview of disciplinary-related practices from their respective judicial bodies. Of particular note, the participants were presented with the recent jurisprudence of the European judicial authorities.

Following on from their discussions, UEFA and the participating stakeholders explored ways of strengthening cooperation in disciplinary matters.

"Sharing knowledge and experience amongst the UEFA disciplinary body members, the ethics and disciplinary inspectors and our main stakeholders in the field is the main purpose of our disciplinary workshop and it has been extremely worthwhile to all the participants," said Angelo Rigopoulos, UEFA's managing director of Integrity and Regulatory.

"This event allows a valuable and in-depth exchange on subjects of specific relevance to our work and offers a great opportunity to address and hold talks with workshop participants on common issues that we are currently facing on disciplinary matters”, added William McAuliffe, head of Disciplinary at UEFA.
