Lahti, a member of UEFA’s Finance Committee, was elected unanimously as the sole candidate on Friday to continue in the position he has held since 2018.
When first elected, Lahti launched “the dream of the generations” programme, in which one of the main targets was to take Finland’s men’s national team to a major tournament for the first time. This dream came true at UEFA EURO 2020, while Finland’s women also participated at UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. That same year, Helsinki hosted the 2022 Super Cup, its first UEFA club competition final.
Among his other achievements, Lahti also successfully integrated Finland’s regional football associations under the national association.
