Örlygsson, a former national team player and youth national team coach promised to do his part to further Icelandic football. “I feel like the FA should be well run, have the overall interests of Icelandic football at its forefront, the interests of players, should be a supporter of Icelandic clubs and support both men’s and women’s football, and there the role of the president means a lot,” he said.
Örlygsson played 41 times for Iceland and scored seven goals during his playing career, also representing the likes of Nottingham Forest, Stoke City and Oldham Athletic in the 1990s. After his playing career came to an end, Örlygsson managed several Icelandic clubs before spending five years as the coach of Iceland’s U19 men’s side.
