UEFA and the Swedish Football Federation (SvFF) have committed to further strengthening cooperation and collaboration, after a first ever meeting between SvFF President Fredrik Reinfeldt and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin in Nyon.
Tuesday’s meeting explored avenues for increased cooperation in various areas of football development, including youth development programmes, grassroots initiatives, and the promotion of football in Sweden and across Europe.
Newly elected in March, Reinfeldt, emphasised the SvFF's commitment to working closely with UEFA on football’s potential for positive social impact. "Sweden’s and the world’s most popular sport has an enormous potential of bringing joy as well as affecting people’s lives," said the former Swedish Prime Minister.
Reinfeldt also outlined his vision:
“that girls and boys feel that they can develop their talent, and that Sweden can make an impression at club level as well as international level."
He added: "It is also important that we are good at holding back aspects such as hatred, racism and violence that can be a part of the tail-end of football. We need to be clear about what we want to achieve and what we want to prevent."
