In a landmark move, UEFA’s Executive Committee yesterday decided to integrate the voices of players (via FIFPRO Europe) and fans (via Football Supporters Europe) into its decision-making process.
These influential stakeholders will now hold dedicated seats on relevant standing committees, joining existing members from national associations, leagues and clubs. By including these important perspectives, UEFA will create more rounded discussions and ensure that more voices are heard and considered when shaping the future of the sport.
Additionally, UEFA has created new, bilateral stakeholder-specific platforms of engagement, which will further increase the opportunity for dialogue and understanding. These action-oriented advisory boards will not only complement the annual UEFA Convention on the Future of European Football but also forge exclusive channels of communication for each stakeholder group to work directly with UEFA.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said:
“We are taking concrete steps based on the ideas discussed collectively with our members and stakeholders – leagues, clubs, players, fans – to foster a more inclusive, robust, and transparent governance framework for European football.
“We are determined in our commitment to work hand in hand with all those who care about the sport and its open system based on meritocracy and solidarity.
“With the introduction of these reforms, UEFA is reinforcing the European football pyramid, strengthening its integrity and ensuring its long-term sustainability for the years to come. Together, we are shaping the path forward for the healthy development of the beautiful game.”
