Welcome to beautiful Galicia for the 2023 UEFA Regions’ Cup. This unique contest captures the essence of grassroots football by uniting players, supporters and communities in a spirit of friendship and fair play. Its cultural significance, uplifting narratives and commitment to football development give the Regions’ Cup a special place among other UEFA competitions.

It is also renowned for producing memorable underdog stories. It offers an opportunity for lesser-known regions and amateur players to shine on the European stage, defying expectations and proving that determination and teamwork can triumph over traditional powerhouses.

These captivating anecdotes inspire players and fans, highlighting the essence of football’s unpredictability and the human spirit.

I take the opportunity to thank the Royal Spanish Football Federation and its president, Luis Rubiales, and president of the Royal Galician Football Federation, Rafael Louzán Abal, for organising this tournament. Your efforts in making the teams feel comfortable and at home have not gone unnoticed, and I want you to know how much I appreciate it.
