50,000 children between the ages of 5-12 are set to benefit from a new memorandum of understanding between the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) and the country’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
The four-year agreement will see the two bodies work together to provide practical football education and equipment for elementary schools. One thousand footballs per year will be given to schools and teachers will be supported through the CFA's D Licence course as an introduction to football coaching.
George Koumas, President of the Cyprus Football Association:
"We want to continue to grow the love of football amongst children in Cyprus. We want to build up good characters and strong personalities in our society and further strengthen football to its maximum level, especially among children at elementary school level. So, we are really happy that we have reached an agreement with the Government towards this aim.
"From day one, I have believed in the power of the Football in Schools programme and I have given the maximum support to our people who were responsible for the project, which has been designed and implemented by the Cyprus FA in collaboration with UEFA."
