The association’s initiative kicked off during the festive season, with the first baby-size shirts delivered ahead of Christmas. This is seen by the FSGC as a symbolic act of communion with the people in the republic of nearly 34,000 inhabitants which is enclaved by Italy.
“It's a small gesture that we want to make for all future San Marino newborns,” said FSGC general secretary Luigi Zafferani. “Our shirt is a symbol of the republic and of the nation.”
“In a special moment like that of birth,” Zafferani added, “the San Marino FA doesn't wish to be intrusive, but would simply like to give newborns a small memory – with the hope that maybe one day when they are older, they will come to support the national team at the stadium.”
