New term for Petrie in Scotland

Petrie, who was appointed as the association’s 53rd president in June 2019, was confirmed in office for a further two years at this week’s annual general assembly.

The 65-year-old continues at the helm during a period when Scottish football is making encouraging progress. The national team participated in the recent UEFA EURO 2020 finals – Scotland’s first appearance at a major national team tournament for 23 years – and Hampden Park in Glasgow staged four matches as a EURO 2020 host venue.

The association’s strategic work in a variety of key areas, including youth and women’s football development, grassroots and participation, are aimed at strengthening the game in Scotland in the coming years.

Petrie trained as a chartered accountant with Ernst and Young before joining investment bank Quayle Munro as managing director. He was an advisor during the takeover of Hibernian in 1991, before joining the board at the Edinburgh club five years later.

He was appointed managing director of Hibernian in 1997, and has fulfilled the role of chief executive as well as chairman. Petrie has served on Scottish FA committees since 1997, and was a director of the association’s board from 2007 and vice-president from 2011. He was also involved in the creation of the Scottish Premier League (SPL).
