UEFA Appeals Body renders decision on UWCL match AC Sparta Praha v Paris Saint-Germain

Following several positive COVID-19 results which occurred during testing organised in anticipation of a domestic competition match, the relevant competent health authorities in France decided to quarantine the entire squad of Paris Saint-Germain women’s football team. Consequently, the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg match between AC Sparta Praha (CZE) and Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) could not be played.

The matter was submitted to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, for a decision to be taken. Based on Article 29(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations and given the urgent circumstances of the matter, the chairman of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body referred the case directly to the Appeals Body for a decision.

The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body took the following decision on 19 March 2021:

- To declare the 2020/21 UEFA Women’s Champions League match between AC Sparta Praha and Paris Saint-Germain, that was scheduled to be played on 17 March 2021, as forfeited by Paris Saint-Germain (who is therefore deemed to have lost the match 3-0) for being responsible for the match not taking place (as provided for in Article 23.01 of the Regulations of the 2020/21 UEFA Women’s Champions League in connection with Article 27(1) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations).
