Valletta FC and Malta midfielder Ryan Fenech crowned an impeccable campaign by being voted Malta's player of the season.
The club captain, 28-year-old Fenech's stylish, imperious midfield play and leadership helped his side to snatch the title after trailing Birkirkara FC for much of the season and then win the FA Trophy. "I was not that excited before the awards night but it caught up with me five minutes before the coveted award was being announced," Fenech told UEFA.com. "I am thrilled and honoured. My award makes it a complete season for Valletta. This is Valletta's award too, not just mine."
Valletta will take on Mosta FC on the opening day of the 2014/15 Maltese season, while another exacting challenge awaits in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round, where they take on FK Qarabağ. "We know it will be difficult against the Azerbaijani champions, but our main objective now is to keep up the momentum which we got going during last season," Fenech said.
