Luigi Delneri's spell as Genoa CFC coach has come to an end after just three months, with the Rossoblù deciding to reappoint Davide Ballardini following Sunday's 2-0 home defeat by Calcio Catania.
Delneri came to Genoa in October as a replacement for Luigi De Canio, who left the club with nine points after their first eight Serie A games of 2012/13. In the last three months, the former Juventus coach collected only eight more points in 13 matches, however, leaving the Grifone third from bottom.
"The club wants to thank Delneri and his coaching staff for the job they did," Genoa said in a statement. Since first making his mark at AC Chievo Verona between 2000 and 2004, Delneri has coached FC Porto, AS Roma, US Città di Palermo, Atalanta BC and UC Sampdoria.
No details have been announced regarding the length of Ballardini's contract, although it is anticipated that he will be in charge until the end of the season, like in 2010/11. The 49-year-old replaced Gian Piero Gasperini in the dugout at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in November of that campaign, but left in the summer, despite a tenth-place finish, when his deal expired.
