Sporting Clube de Portugal have awarded Anderson Polga a new three-year contract that will keep the Brazilian defender at the Estádio José Alvalade until the end of the 2008/09 campaign.

World champion
The 27-year-old, who was part of the Brazil squad that lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2002, moved to Lisbon the following summer having scored five goals in 64 league games for Grêmio FBPA in his homeland. He has since made 85 Portuguese Liga appearances for Sporting and was an unused substitute in their 3-1 defeat by PFC CSKA Moskva in the 2005 UEFA Cup final.

League runners-up
Polga, who is currently on holiday, is expected to put pen to paper on the deal on 18 June. Sporting finished second in the Portuguese top flight in 2005/06 and qualified directly for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
