George Burley has surprisingly parted company with Heart of Midlothian FC, despite leading them to the Scottish Premier League summit.

George Burley has surprisingly parted company with Scottish Premier League leaders Heart of Midlothian FC after what chairman George Foulkes described as "irreconcilable differences".

Huge impact
The 49-year-old has had a sensational impact since joining the Edinburgh side from Derby County FC during the summer, leading them to the top of the Scottish Premier League following an unbeaten start to the season. But despite the prospect of being the first club in 20 years to break Rangers FC and Celtic FC duopoly of the Scottish championship, the club announced Burley's departure just hours before Saturday's game against Dunfermline Athletic FC.

Hearts victory
Foulkes said: "It has been mutually agreed that because of irreconcilable differences George Burley will not continue as manager with immediate effect". With youth coach John McGlynn quickly ushered in as caretaker manager, Hearts opened up a six-point lead at the Premier League summit with a 2-0 win at Tynecastle. Czech Republic striker Michal Pospícil and former Olympique de Marseille midfield player Rudolf Skácel were both on target, although Celtic could halve the deficit when they face Kilmarnock FC tomorrow.
