Neville strike spells United success

Gary Neville scored the only goal of the game as Manchester United FC defeated struggling Leicester City FC and closed the gap on second-placed Chelsea FC in the Premiership tonight.

Three-point gap
United moved within three points of Chelsea with a game in hand, while Leicester remained second from bottom. Muzzy Izzet came close to giving the visitors a shock second-minute lead at Old Trafford but could only drag his shot wide after United goalkeeper Roy Carroll had cleared straight to the Leicester midfield player.

Close-range finish
At the other end, Louis Saha put Neville's chip wide, but the defender broke the deadlock eleven minutes into the second half. Cristiano Ronaldo's cross bounced off Leicester defender Nikos Dabizas and Neville was left with a simple chance from close range.

Rooney on target
In tonight's other Premiership game, Leeds United AFC were held to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road by fellow strugglers Everton FC. Wayne Rooney gave Everton the lead with a 20-metre shot in the 13th minute.

Milner strikes
Former Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn then made two fine saves from Alan Smith to preserve Everton's lead, but James Milner did equalise with another long-range effort five minutes after half-time. Leeds remain in 18th position with 32 points, four ahead of Leicester and two behind Portsmouth FC, Blackburn Rovers FC and Manchester City FC.
