Newcastle United FC climbed into fifth place in the Premiership with an impressive 3-1 win against Fulham FC at Saint James' Park last night.

Significant victory
Goals from Andy O'Brien, Gary Speed and a spectacular overhead kick from Laurent Robert gave Sir Bobby Robson's side a win that moved them above Liverpool FC and their opponents and up to 33 points, four behind fourth-placed Charlton Athletic FC.

Early lead
Without the Manchester United FC-bound Louis Saha, Fulham were on the back foot from the outset and fell behind after just four minutes. Jonathan Woodgate retrieved Robert's corner and, after Alan Shearer's initial effort was blocked, O'Brien was on hand to score from close range.

Similar strike
The second goal arrived four minutes before half-time and also came from a corner, with Speed heading past Edwin van der Sar at the near post. The Dutch goalkeeper made two saves each from Robert and Nolberto Solano to keep Fulham in the game, but was beaten again nine minutes after the interval.

Spectacular finish
A flowing Newcastle move was started and finished by Robert, who broke infield and found Jermaine Jenas, with the ball then moved on to Kieron Dyer. The English international broke forward before picking out Robert with his cross who, with his back to goal, quickly adjusted to flick the ball in with his heel.

Consolation goal
The goal sealed all three points for the home side, although Fulham did pull one back 16 minutes from time when midfield player Sean Davis reduced the deficit, sending a shot past Shay Given and in off a post.
