Bosnia bows to Barbarez

Members

Hamburger SV striker Sergej Barbarez has been named footballer of the year in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Second title
Barbarez won the same award in 2001, and his excellent displays for a Bosnia-Herzegovina side that narrowly missed out on a place in the UEFA EURO 2004™ play-offs have helped him win the prize again.

Reliable performer
The forward has scored four goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season, and he continues to be a fine performer for Hamburg, whom he joined in 2000 after spells with FC Hansa Rostock and BV Borussia Dortmund. He will receive his honour at a ceremony in Sarajevo on 18 December.

Athlete poll
In addition to his footballing skills being recognised, the 32-year-old finished second in a poll for Bosnia-Herzegovina's athlete of the year.
