Two-year deal
Simeone, who spent three seasons with Atlético in the mid-1990s, winning the double in 1995/96, will sign a two-year deal after Lazio agreed to cancel his contract in Rome. The 33-year-old will be officially unveiled on Friday.
'So excited'
After the transfer was confirmed on Atlético's official website, Simeone said: "I am more excited now than when I first came here, because I know exactly what I am getting. I cannot wait to bring the transfer to a conclusion and get back home.
Body and soul
"[When I left] I told myself that I would never forget the supporters here, and I knew I would play for this club again. It feels like I have never been away. My heart has always been at Atlético, but now I am going to be there in person too."
'Difficult decision'
Simeone left Atlético for Internazionale FC in 1997 before moving to Lazio two years later and winning an Italian double in his first campaign at the club. He said of his time in the capital: "It has been a very difficult decision for me as I have given my all [to Lazio].
Lazio support
"I will never forget how well I have been treated by my team-mates there. If they come to Madrid to play against Real [Madrid CF in the UEFA Champions League], I will go to the Bernabéu stadium to see them win."
