Besiktas stumble
Title-chasing Besiktas stumbled to a 0-0 at home against Samsunspor to leave them five points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray SK. Stern defending from the visitors saw the Istanbul side held but Ilhan Mansiz could have settled the game for the home side after 42 minutes when he shot wide with just goalkeeper Goksel Gencer to beat.
Gaziantepspor hit five
Gaziantepspor moved into fourth place with a resounding 5-2 victory over Bursaspor. They were ahead after eight minutes through Brazilian midfielder Julio Cesar Antonio De Souza, who pounced on the rebound after Fatih Tekke's shot was blocked. Bursaspor were level in the 41st minute through Sinan Yesil’s direct free-kick, but a stunning second-half display with two goals for Mustafa Sahinturk either side of Maxim Romaschenko’s finish completing the scoring.
Rizespor inspired
Emmanuel Tetteh notched a double as Rizespor gave their survival hopes a lift with a 3-1 home win over Denizlispor. He gave his side a perfect start with a great individual effort in the first minute, collecting the ball from midfield before racing in on goal and firing the ball home. Hasan Vzer doubled the home side's lead just four minutes later when he converted Ozan Kazmaz's free-kick from the right-hand side. Hakan Gimen pulled a goal back for Denizlispor in the 50th minute, but Tetteh ended any hopes of a comeback by the visitors with his second five minutes later.
Misery for Trabzonspor
In Saturday’s other match, Trabzonspor lost 2-0 against Diyarbakirspor at the Ismetpasa stadium in Izmir as Trabzonspor served the first of a two-game home ban imposed after crowd trouble. Celaleddin Kogak and Vnder Deniz Kolgu scored the goals.
