Trezeguet unharmed after crash

French international striker David Trezeguet was one of four Juventus FC players to escape injury in a car crash after their 3-1 win at AC Chievo Verona on Sunday.

Returning from Verona
Trezeguet, the eight-goal leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League this season, was returning on the motorway from Verona with team-mates Mark Iuliano, Gianluca Zambrotta and Enzo Maresca when their car collided with two others.

Fourth accident
The accident is the fourth involving Serie A players and officials in the past seven days. Juventus managing director Luciano Moggi also escaped injury last week when his car was in an accident following the Coppa Italia win at Milan AC, and AC Fiorentina midfielder Sandro Cois missed Sunday's defeat against Atalanta BC after suffering whiplash in an accident 24 hours earlier.

Calcio in shock
However, it was the death last Wednesday of Brescia Calcio defender Vittorio Mero in a car crash that left the world of Calcio in shock. Brescia, whose Coppa Italia semi-final against Parma AC was postponed following the news of Mero's death, paid tribute to the player in Sunday's 3-1 victory over US Lecce.

'Ciao Vito'
The players gathered around Mero's now-retired No 13 shirt before the game and the scorers - Luca Toni and Emanuele Filippini - lifted their shirts to show a message on their T-shirts beneath that read: "The only thing to do is to remember you. Ciao Vito."

Filippini's first goal
Filippini's goal was his first in Serie A and, as a former room-mate of Mero, he said afterwards: "I believe in God, I'm a practising Catholic and today I am convinced that someone up there decided our destiny. I scored my first goal in Serie A in the first game we've played without Vittorio. I'm sure he guided the ball into the net. Vito had become a good friend of mine and we shared a room together on away trips. It's incredible that I managed to score the goal and I really felt the presence of Vito."
