In the only fixture in the Russian Premier-Liga on Tuesday, ten-man FC Torpedo Moskva salvaged a 1-1 draw with FC Zenit St. Petersburg seconds before the final whistle.
Kerzhakov shut down
UEFA Cup participants Zenit were relying on their star forward Alexander Kerzhakov, who scored for Russia against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, but Yugoslavian defender Nikola Jolovic shut out the young starlet, limiting his opportunities.
Semshov facing ban
A free-kick from Ukrainian midfielder Alexander Spiavak put Zenit ahead after 33 minutes. Torpedo's best performer Igor Semshov was sent off on 80 minutes for punching an opponent, as temperatures rose in Moscow. But, even without Smeshov, who will now be banned for five games, Viktor Leonchenko converted a late penalty to put Torpedo on even terms after Serhiy Kormiltsev was brought down in the Zenit penalty area.
