AZ Alkmaar have awarded Dutch Under-21 international Demy de Zeeuw a new and improved contract until summer 2010.

Four more years
The 23-year-old midfielder, who has helped his country to the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-finals in Portugal, has signed fresh terms to replace a deal due to expire at the end of 2008/09. "Demy performed above expectations last season and we wanted to show this in his contract and extend his stay with us," said AZ director of football Marcel Brand. De Zeeuw moved to the Alkmaarderhout last summer after four seasons in the first team at Go Ahead Eagles, for whom he scored seven goals in 65 league games. He caught AZ's eye after impressing during their pre-season friendly against second-division Go Ahead, and went on to make 26 Eredivisie appearances in 2005/06, scoring once.
