Season review: Liechtenstein

FC Vaduz failed to win promotion back to the Swiss top flight but will compete in Europe once more after winning the Liechtenstein Cup for the 14th season in succession, their 40th overall victory in the competition.

FC Vaduz lead an exciting double life in European football; most weekends, they play in the second tier of the Swiss League, but they are also regulars in European competition thanks to the Liechtenstein Cup. The tiny principality has no formal league structure, with the cup the only national tournament.

Cup final: FC Vaduz 5-0 USV Eschen/Mauren
Vaduz have now won 40 of the 66 editions of the Liechtenstein Cup, with this success against Eschen/Mauren – who play in the Swiss third tier – their 14th in succession. They were kept at bay until the 38th minute, when David Harrer capitalised from a set piece, and further goals from Mario Sara, Roland Schwegler, Arlan and Diego Ciccone after the interval completed an emphatic win.
