Betis hold Barcelona, Valencia lose

FC Barcelona's Josep Guardiola and Valencia CF's Unai Emery both failed to end their Liga terms in charge with wins as Real Betis Balompié and Real Sociedad de Fútbol proved dogged.

Josep Guardiola and Unai Emery both failed to bow out on a Liga high as the two coaches failed to claim victories as they took charge of their clubs for the final time in the league ahead of summer departures.

Guardiola is due to stand down when the season concludes and his ten-man FC Barcelona side needed an equaliser two minutes into added time to secure a 2-2 draw at Real Betis Balompié. Second-half goals, scored just three minutes apart, from Castro Rubén put Betis ahead after Sergio Busquets' strike nine minutes into the game had given the early advantage to the Azulgrana.

However, Daniel Alves's dismissal early in the second period made matters tough for Barça, who were spared defeat by Seydou Keita's last-gasp effort. The defeat leaves the Blaugrana on a total of 91 points, six behind Real Madrid CF who have the chance to bring up the century as they face RCD Mallorca on Sunday.

Though the Liga has eluded him this term, Guardiola has one remaining shot at glory before departing as his charges take on Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey on 25 May.

Valencia CF's Emery is due to be replaced by Mauricio Pellegrino in the summer and his side were unable to give him a victorious send off as they went down 1-0 at Real Sociedad de Fútbol.

French forward Antoine Griezmann struck in the 64th minute to condemn the Blanquinegros to defeat. Valencia will nonetheless finish the campaign in third position and are assured another UEFA Champions League challenge next term.
