Real Betis Balompié's 100% winning start in Spain came to an end as they went down 1-0 at Getafe CF. The early Liga leaders had won their opening four games on their return to the top flight after a two-year absence but they could find no answer to Diego Castro's 30th-minute goal. Castro struck after Daniel Güiza had turned on a Juan Valera cross and goalkeeper Miguel Ángel Moya subsequently ensured that Getafe held on for their first victory of the campaign.
In the evening's lone Premier League game, Sunderland AFC lost 2-1 at promoted Norwich City FC, with Leon Barnett and Steve Morison getting the goals for the Canaries before Kieran Richardson lashed in a late response for the Black Cats.
