• Malta's record appearance maker, Carabott has lifted the Maltese Premier League title with three clubs – Hibernians (1993/94, 1994-95), Valletta (2000/01) and Sliema Wanderers (2003/04). He also won the Maltese Cup on two occasions, with Hibernians in 1997/98 and in 2000/01 while at Valletta.

• That latter success was one of six trophies Valletta won in 2000/01, including the one-off Centenary Cup in December of that season.

• Since hanging up his boots, Carabott has dedicated his time to managing the football school he founded in 2006, Sock Kids.

• Carabott made the first of his 122 appearances for Malta on 15 November 1987 in a UEFA European Championship qualifier against Switzerland, which finished 1-1. He brought up his century of caps on 15 August 2001 when Malta lost 2-0 to Bosnia-Herzegovina in a friendly in Sarajevo.

• Though a defender, Carabott scored an impressive 12 goals for Malta during his long international career, the first of which was in a 1-1 draw with Cyprus on 23 November 1988.

• Carabott received a commemorative cap and medal from UEFA to mark his century of international appearances on 11 October 2011, before Malta's 2-0 home defeat by Israel in UEFA European Championship qualifying.

• "It really came as a surprise to me and I didn't expect anything like this," he said. "It's an amazing initiative which shows the respect that UEFA has not only for the players active in the game but also for those who have participated in European football history."
