Oleh Gusev, Pape Diakhaté and Artem Milevskiy were all on target as FC Dynamo Kyiv defeated the defending champions and cup holders FC Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 to win the Ukrainian Super Cup in Poltava.
Although both sides were without a number of key players for the curtain-raiser to the Ukrainian season each started brightly, but it was Dynamo who stole ahead in the fifth minute after Yaroslav Rakitskiy brought down Andriy Yarmolenko in the penalty area. Gusev made no mistake from the spot.
Mircea Lucescu's charges were back in the match within ten minutes when Fernandinho found the net from Darijo Srna's corner. However, they were lucky not to fall behind again when Dynamo newcomer Haruna Lukman, a June signing from AS Monaco FC, passed up the chance to score on his debut, sending his effort over the bar.
On 31 minutes, however, Diakhaté – back at Dynamo after a loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais – restored his side's lead when he met Gusev's pinpoint free-kick. Despite Shakhtar's best efforts to fashion another equaliser, Dynamo held out and indeed increased their advantage on the counterattack as Milevskiy guaranteed a first trophy in two years for Yuri Semin's men and a fifth Ukrainian Super Cup in the club's history.
