Denmark made a perfect start to their UEFA EURO 2012 preparations with victory against their neighbours and fellow finalists.

Nicklas Bendtner and Michael Krohn-Dehli struck ten minutes from the end of each half to secure a deserved victory in Copenhagen. Sweden had their chances but will hope to get back to winning ways in England on Tuesday when Denmark welcome Finland to Esbjerg.

In a first half where the teams took turns at having the initiative, Denmark had the best opportunities. Bendtner's shot from close range was blocked by Johan Wiland in the Sweden goal in the 18th minute, not long before Daniel Agger's 35-metre strike sailed narrowly past the post. On 35 minutes the deadlock was broken as a Lars Jacobsen cross from the right sailed over Agger's head but landed perfectly for the unmarked Bendtner to score from the middle of the box.

Emir Bajrami could have equalised four minutes before half-time, but his shot hit the post and in a second half disrupted by many substitutions, Sweden did not have so much of the ball, though Zlatan Ibrahimović, Christian Wilhelmsson and Alexander Gerndt had efforts. Matters were settled when Jacobsen set up his second goal, sending Krohn-Deli free on the counter to make it 2-0.
