Slovan Bratislava seal Slovakian double

ŠK Slovan Bratislava secured their 14th Slovak First League title and a record third domestic double - moving ahead of city rivals AŠK Inter Bratislava - with one game remaining thanks to a 3-1 victory against bottom club MFK Dubnica.

Having defeated MŠK Žilina in a penalty shoot-out to lift the Slovak Cup, Karel Jarolím's side only needed to avoid defeat against Dubnica to reclaim the title they last won in 2009, but Slovan went one better beating the basement side 3-1. Filip Šebo, who joined as a free agent in September after being released by French club Valenciennes FC, was on target twice to end the campaign with 20 goals in his last 22 games.

The title caps a remarkable run of form for the new champions, who have been unbeaten since returning from the winter break in February in fifth place. "We produced desperate football in the first half of the competition," said Jarolím. "Everything went wrong, but I kept telling my players to be patient, then everything changed. We played very well this year, especially at the end of our games. What we've achieved is like a small miracle. I never dreamed of becoming champions with one game to go."

Šebo added: "Slovan deserve this title and I am very happy, it's a beautiful moment." Slovan will complete their league campaign against DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda on Wednesday.
