Two first-half penalties from captain Matthías Vilhjálmsson set FH Hafnarfjördur on their way to a 4-0 victory against KR Reykjavík in the Icelandic Cup final.

The triumph is FH's second in the competition and they have now lifted a trophy in each of the last seven years having won the league between 2004 and 2006, the cup in 2007 and the title again in 2008 and 2009. With both teams unexpectedly off the championship pace in the Premier League – FH are third, with KR two places and four points further back – the showpiece had assumed extra significance.

The opening goal arrived 11 minutes before the break when Skúli Jón Fridgeirsson fouled FH winger Atli Gudnason and Vilhjálmsson converted the penalty. FH doubled their lead six minutes later and once more it came from the spot, Vilhjálmsson keeping his cool after Ólafur Páll Snorrason's cross struck the hand of KR defender Gudmundur Reynir Gunnarsson.

KR pushed forward forward in search of a route back into the match but were undone 14 minutes from time when a shot from Snorrason deflected into Atli Vidar Björnsson's path, affording the striker the simplest of finishes from close range. Gudnason rounded off the scoring late on, rifling in Snorrason's cross from the left.
