Valencia CF have added Portuguese international defender Ricardo Costa to their ranks after the 29-year-old agreed a move from LOSC Lille Métropole on a free transfer.
The centre-back has signed a four-year deal at Mestalla and becomes Valencia's second capture in a week after Turkey midfielder Mehmet Topal arrived from Galatasaray AŞ last Thursday. Costa joined Lille from VfL Wolfsburg for a six-month stay in January after being released from his contract – due to expire this summer – by the Bundesliga club.
He had spent two and a half seasons at Wolfsburg, winning the German title in 2008/09, since his move from FC Porto, where he started his career. Costa will join a Valencia side that finished third in the Spanish Liga to secure their return to the UEFA Champions League, a competition Costa tasted success in during his time at Porto, where he also won the UEFA Cup and four Portuguese championships.
