The cut-off deadline of 22 December 2010 has passed for submissions of candidacy for the position of UEFA president in the election to take place at the XXXV Ordinary UEFA Congress in Paris on 22 March 2011.
The regulations governing the implementation of the UEFA Statutes (Article 4.1) stipulate that candidates for the position of president of UEFA must be proposed in writing to the UEFA Administration at least three months before the date set for the opening of the Congress.
As of today, 23 December 2010, only one candidate has been announced: current UEFA president Michel Platini, who will be seeking a second four-year term of office from 2011 to 2015.
Meanwhile, the cut-off deadline for the remaining positions up for election at the UEFA Congress in Paris will be 22 January 2011.
The regulations governing the implementation of the UEFA Statutes (Article 4.2) state that candidates for positions on the FIFA Executive Committee and UEFA Executive Committees must be proposed in writing to the UEFA Administration at least two months before the date set for the opening of the UEFA Congress.
These remaining positions concern seven members of the UEFA Executive Committee. Also, the Paris Congress will see the election of a FIFA vice-president and a FIFA Executive Committee member. The UEFA president will be an ex-officio FIFA vice-president.
In accordance with the UEFA Statutes (Article 19), the UEFA president and seven members of the UEFA Executive Committee are elected during the calendar year preceding the final round of the UEFA European Football Championship. The other eight members of the Executive Committee will be elected during the calendar year following the final round of the UEFA European Football Championship. The next final round takes place in Poland and Ukraine in 2012.
The term of office of the UEFA president and members of the Executive Committee elected by a Congress is four years.
