Dejan Stanković hit a hat-trick as FC Internazionale Milano beat Parma FC 5-2 for their first win in five Serie A outings, on a day when S.S. Lazio failed to close on leaders AC Milan.
Inter had lost their two previous league encounters and fell behind early on at San Siro when former Nerazzurri striker Hernán Crespo (4) back-heeled Parma in front. Stanković soon turned the game around, though, registering in the 18th and 19th minutes before Esteban Cambiasso struck moments later. Crespo (36) reduced the deficit before Parma twice hit the woodwork, but Inter held on and Thiago Motta and Stanković eventually put the game out of reach.
The win moved Rafael Benítez's men into fifth, ahead of US Città di Palermo on goal difference after they beat AS Roma 3-1 to leapfrog the capital outfit. Second-placed Lazio lie three points behind Milan, meanwhile, following a 1-1 home draw against Calcio Catania, Matías Silvestre (44) on target for the visitors before Hernanes swiftly equalised.
Elsewhere, Antonio Di Natale hit his second hat-trick in two weeks as Udinese Calcio defeated fourth-placed SSC Napoli 3-1, while there were no goals between Brescia Calcio and Genoa CFC. Lastly, strugglers AS Bari drew 1-1 with AC Cesena, who jumped ahead of second-bottom US Lecce, beaten 3-2 at Cagliari Calcio.
