Long-serving Olsen commits to Denmark

Morten Olsen has signed a two-year contract extension to continue as Denmark coach, an agreement which will take the 60-year-old into his 12th year in the post.

Olsen, who replaced Bo Johansson in 2000, has penned an agreement which runs until 30 June 2012. The former Brøndby IF, 1. FC Köln and AFC Ajax boss became the first Danish footballer to reach 100 caps in an international career spanning 19 years and marked a century of games as Denmark coach with a 1-0 victory against Sweden which secured a place at this summer's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

'Long time'
"Ten years is a long time in the same job as a coach," said Olsen, who previously guided Denmark to the 2002 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004™. "Twelve years is a very long time, so the next two years will give us all a reasonable chance to see how things look then." Jim Stjerne Hansen, general secretary of the Danish Football Association, added: "Morten Olsen is practically the Danish equivalent of Sir Alex Ferguson, so I would definitely not rule out the possibility of a further extension again in two years."
