The UEFA Training Ground has launched TactX, a unique 3-D animation software application which coaches can use to create and store training drills and to conduct tactical planning and match analysis.

TactX is an interactive coaching tool designed to help coaches from grassroots level all the way up to the professional game. Allowing the user to demonstrate coaching drills, tactics and carry out analysis, it uses high quality 3D animated graphics that instantly visualise the desired formation.

Exclusive to the UEFA Training Ground, the software creates an authentic experience by allowing a team to view an accurate 360° representation of what the coaching staff require them to do on the training field and, ultimately, on the pitch. Using 3D motion capture, TactX achieves realistic movement so that the 'players' can reflect the motions of the human body. This was achieved by fitting sensors to professional footballers.

TactX is already used by Fulham FC and Blackburn Rovers FC in the English Premier League, grassroots coaches worldwide and respected trainers such as former France and Liverpool FC coach Gérard Houllier. "When a coach is communicating with players, no matter what their age or ability, it is important to be clear and illustrate your intentions effectively," said the French Football Federation's technical director. "I can't believe how easy TactX is to use – I'm no technology expert and this is no problem!"

UEFA will be giving ten free TactX licences to each of its 53 member associations in order to showcase its capabilities. UEFA Training Ground editor Peter Sanderson said: "It's important to us to ensure that TactX is accessible to everyone, from the grassroots game up. This software will revolutionise football coaching, helping develop new talent and streamlining the training process.

"Our vision for the future of TactX is to make it a networking hub for coaches and teams, allowing communication on all levels regardless of language or geographical location."
