Erik Hamrén has been named as the new Sweden coach with immediate effect, although the 52-year-old will remain in charge of Norwegian champions Rosenborg BK until 31 August 2010.

Club success
Hamrén has signed a contract that will take him through to the end of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, replacing Lars Lagerbäck, who resigned following Sweden's failure to reach next summer's finals in South Africa. Aside from his recent success with Rosenborg, Hamrén has also won the title in Denmark with Aalborg BK and lifted the Swedish Cup on three occasions − twice with AIK Solna and once with Örgryte IS.

'Grateful'
"Being the national coach of my country is, and has been, a big dream for me, and I'm very grateful that Rosenborg have given me this opportunity," said Hamrén. "At the same time I'm happy to continue working with Scandinavia's best side, Rosenborg, in 2010. We are going to fight for the league, the cup and prepare for playing in Europe." His first game as Sweden coach is a friendly against world champions Italy on 18 November.
