Güneş back in Trabzonspor saddle

Former Turkey coach Şenol Güneş wants to make Trabzonspor "a world-famous brand" after returning for a fourth spell at the Black Sea side in place of Hugo Broos, who was dismissed last week.

The 57-year-old Güneş has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract in Trabzon and said: "Trabzonspor have been through an unlucky period but it would be wrong to question their worth. Now we need to support the club in order to make it a world-famous brand. However, we will do that in short stages. The ultimate goal is to establish a club who can develop their own talent. While doing this we'll do our utmost to compete."

Trabzon stalwart
Güneş previously held the reins at Trabzonspor from 1988-89, 1993-97 and 2005-2006, and made 453 league appearances for the club as a goalkeeper from 1975-87, during which time the club won its six Turkish titles. He was hired as Turkey coach in August 2000, guiding the national team to the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time in 48 years in 2002, where his charges picked up bronze medals. Since 2007 he had coached Korean Republic side FC Seoul.

Güneş has allowed Gökhan Ünal, Egemen Korkmaz, Rigobert Song, Tony Sylva and Engin Baytar to return to the first-team squad after being dropped by Broos. Trabzonspor are eighth in the 18-team Süper Lig, ten points adrift of league leaders Fenerbahçe SK. They beat Eskişehirspor 2-1 in their most recent league game at the weekend despite being without a coach. The Black Sea club remain the only side outside Istanbul to have won the title.
