AFC Ajax kept their Eredivisie title hopes alive with a 2-1 victory at FC Groningen which leaves the Amsterdam club three points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven with one match to go and with a better goal difference.
Old boys' act
The match, originally scheduled for last Sunday but postponed because of a fire at the Euroborg, was decided in Ajax’s favour by two former Groningen players. Rasmus Lindgren put the visitors in front after 19 minutes, heading in Edgar Davids' cross, but Matías Cahais' header on the stroke of half-time levelled the game up. Uruguay forward Luis Suárez scored the winner, though, midway through the second half, flicking in a Dennis Rommedahl cross.
PSV need a point
As was the case last term – when PSV won their third successive league title by virtue of having a better goal difference by a single goal – the Dutch championship will be decided on the final day of the season. PSV need a draw in Arnhem to be sure of success while only their loss against BV Vitesse coupled with a home win for Ajax against Heracles Almelo will be good enough to give the Amsterdam club the title.
