Legia Warszawa may have missed out on Ekstraklasa glory but they were not to be denied for a second time as they defeated the champions Wisla Kraków 4-3 on penalties after a scoreless draw to claim the Polish Cup for the 13th time in their history.
Roger influence
It may have been the first showpiece since 1969 that the league winners and runners-up had met in the cup decider, but this was no classic as defences stood firm in Belchatow. Legia's Brazialian-born playmaker Roger Guerreiro, who recently became eligible for Poland, produced a rare moment of quality in the 51st minute when fizzing in a cross from the left which Zimbabwean striker Takesure Chinyama headed against the crossbar.
Mucha magic
The Warsaw giants triumphed in the shoot-out on the back of Slovakian goalkeeper Ján Mucha, who repelled efforts from Paulista and Marcin Baszczyński. Legia could afford a miss of their own, Aleksandar Vuković failing from the spot, as Polish international Jakub Wawrzyniak stroked in the tenth, and winning, penalty.
